The director of the planned series spin-off from the Monsterverse about King Kong or Godzilla has been appointed. Variety reports that Matt Shakman will direct the first episode of the yet to be named series for Apple TV+. Shakman, who is best known for his work on the Marvel series WandaVision, is also set to direct Paramount’s next Star Trek film.
The series was created after Godzilla and the Mutos destroyed San Francisco in the first Godzilla. The story centers on a family who discovers their roots after the disaster. They also have ties to the Monarch, a mysterious organization.
To date, the Monsterverse is made by Legendary and Warner Bros. The Godzilla debut in 2014 was followed by Kong & Godzilla II – King of the Monsters_, and last year’s epic clash of the two movie monsters in Godzilla Vs. Kong_. Legendary is rumored to be making another Monsterverse movie after the success of the first. Rumours circulated about a Son Of Kong.
