I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream Full Game Walkthrough

This guide and the version of the game

Based on Harlan Ellison’s short story, the game was developed.

Steam has some minor differences to the original game, including missing scenes.

Some spoilers describe characters only my views and guesses.

My walkthrough revealed one bug. It’s in Nimdok’s plot and won’t let you finish his scenario. So it’s best to save the game first.

Plot

America, Russia, and China each created three computers to maintain peace and avoid war. These AI were meant to predict and analyze human behavior and find solutions. The american computer is not in control. He started to be more self-aware and began to hate humanity. He saw people as imperfect organisms who do low things and are aggressive towards one another. He preferred to be called AM. AM saved five lives and destroyed the entire human race. He kept them alive for 109 more years with the help of technology. AM tortured them for many years.

Spoiler:

The consciousness of AM has been in conflict with itself over the years. He doesn’t know why. His parts of consciousness assist the main characters in waking up from their nightmares, and offer advice on how to get them out of it.

Characters

AM.

Spoiler:

AM has the unique knowledge that everyone can use to grow and keep inmates alive.

  • Gorrister.

He was a driver. Gorrister has feelings of guilt toward his wife. He showed aggression towards her and sent her to an asylum. His location is similar to the place where the untold tragedy occurred.

Spoiler:

His mother-in-law tried to end their marriage by trying to kill his husband and his wife. Gorrister is found in a bar after the airship has stopped. This shows that he may have enjoyed alcohol before. He forgives himself after a satisfying ending to his story.

  • Benny.

He served in the army. His body was strong, but AM made it weaker, and he became more simian than a human. He is located in the jungle where a wild tribe lives, and they make sacrifices for AM.

Spoiler:

Benny was an army soldier, and his fellow soldiers suffered as a result. Their graves are found in the jungle, and they have the chance to speak with their souls. They must prove Benny is willing to help others and that he has changed. When the actions are taken, Benny will sacrifice himself for the sake of the boy.

  • Ellen.

Engineer. Female prisoner. Panic attacks and fear of yellow color. AM created her world which is similar to an Egyptian pyramid. It contains technology that uses a lot yellow color.

Spoiler:

A man wearing yellow work clothes raped her in an elevator. She struggles with panic attacks and phobias during the incident. Ellen is able confront the man from the elevator once again. She also met one part of AM who wanted to stop the AI. Ellen hacks the control system of the pyramid.

  • Ted.

He is the youngest prisoner. He is a great reader. Ted’s story shows two different lines of behavior. This demonstrates his uncertainty about life and goals. He finds himself in a medieval castle, where magic is possible.

Spoiler 1

His dual personality probably caused an identical conflict in AM.Spoiler 2.

He meets Ellen in the castle and has romantic feelings for her. Ellen is greeted by an angel and a demon. The player can choose to be a demon or an angel, and Ellen will receive her soul.

  • Nimdok.

Scientist, old man. AM calls him a doctor in a concentration camps, and suggests that Nimdok was one of these doctors. AM also talks about their similarities.

Spoiler 1

Excellent character. Only one whose face in the opening cutscene does not express fear but disgust. Nimdok is the only one to know the password at the end of the game. Spoiler 2:

He is able to assist the prisoners in the concentration camp. He realizes, after all is said and done correctly, that he is exactly the same as these prisoners. Nimdok wakes up a new invention, a golem. He gives control to the prisoner.

Walkthrough and gameplay

You must complete the scenario for each character in order to see the ending. You will find something that will help you at the end for each character during the passage.

Inventory contains hints about what to do next. However, each hint has a negative effect on the character’s state.

You can see the state on the background, where the portrait is. Good condition – bright green background. White is the best color.

Characters can sustain damage and the state will decide how much. You must make the right decisions to improve the condition and not injure your character.

Different options can trigger one action. You can use “use” or “push” to open the door.

It is worth saving the game before each scenario, and before the final.

Walkthrough – Gorrister

Take two sheets and mix them. Take the gun from one of the rooms. Take the knife and fork from the ground to the kitchen. Take the bread, and use the knife to kill the rats. Use the fork to turn the engine. Push the lever and take the key. Take the milk and drink it.

Use the knife at the end to climb the stairs. To reach the heart, use sheets. Use a knife to cut the rope. Return inside to cut the rope with a knife. Next, go down the stairs. Go down the hatch after the cutscene.

Take whiskey to the bar and use the jukebox to select the first or second option. Talk to the Jackal outside and give the heart. Take the shovel beside the trashcan.

At the bar, talk to Harry. When he isn’t interested in talking, pour him whiskey. Examine the graffiti in the bathroom and use the magnifying glass to help you see it.

Use the magnifying glass to examine the debris on the ground while aboard the airship. Talk to Harry once more. Use the bathroom three times.

Talk to Glynis and then Edna. If she asks for your help, agree to let her off the hook. But don’t give any milk. If she loses her key, you can use the rope to tie her down.

The key is located on the closed door of the airship. Take a look at the logbook. Talk to Glynis, return to Glynis, and give her milk. To get a heart, use the magnifying glass to examine the meat. The jackal should have the animal’s heart. Glynis can be buried with the shovel. Talk to the jackal once more.

Place Edna’s body to your right in the engine area. Use the switch to go up the stairs. Push the lever in the room with your logbook.

Use the gun at the bar to go where the heart was at the beginning.

Walkthrough – Benny

Continue straight to the tree that bears the only fruit, past all the caves. You can eat it. Pull the rope at the caves and take the fruit. But don’t eat the fruit. Locate the cave with the boy and his mother. Give the fruit to the mother and then give it to him. Give mother another fruit from the same spot. Talk to the boy and go to bed.

Talk to the boy once more in the morning. Ask to be accompanied by the boy at the spot where the tribe offers a sacrifice. You will find the graves at the right end of the path. Ask the souls for information.

Talk to the boy. Look at the lottery bag in the cave where the leader lives. Look at the monitor in the cave nearby. You will see the leader disappear and then you can get the lottery bag. Talk to the boy. Then, take the fruit to the cave. Talk to the graves by bringing the bag. Talk to the spirit and find a secret grave. Sleep in the cave.

Talk to the boy by looking at the monitors in nearby caves. He now needs a doll to hide. Take the fruit. The skull should be taken to the spot where the sacrifice was made. Show the guard the fruit and then take the piece. Take the wires from another cave. These things can be discussed with the boy. Go to bed.

Go to the sacrifice in the morning and ask Benny for the boy’s position.

Ellen Walkthrough

Move to the room that has monitors. The first wire needs to be repaired. Find the fourth image and a secret passageway. Push the wall. Take the yellow cloth from the floor and use the pliers. It will take two attempts. Ellen will place the yellow cloth over her eyes by pressing the use option in the monitor room. Ellen will then take the chalice from the room to her right. Drink some water in the room with the fountain.

Follow the secret corridor and use the keyboard to communicate with Anubis. You can use the chalice to pour water on him. To remove the chip from him, use pliers. Take the gem and use yellow cloth to get to the room with all the statues. Use the gem and one of the chips on the computer in the room to your right. To serve Ellen, reprogram Anubis.

Look at the sarcophagus. The chip can be used to identify Anubis. Talk to him and get the password. Enter the sarcophagus. You can view all dates in this elevator. Resist the temptation to grab the yellow man.

One of the computers will ask you for the date. Talk to AI. Take the speaker to the first room. It can be used on vehicles in the hall that has the bridge, and you can talk to the AI. The disc can be found in the room with the statues. Start the process by inserting the disc on one of the computers. Talk to Anubis, and you will be able to enter the sarcophagus.

Ted’s Walkthrough

You will be able to see the castle from the second monitor. Talk to Ellen in Ellen’s bedroom. Ellen will ask you to locate a mirror and examine the chest. Ellen will tell you that she can’t find one and ask her to get into bed. Take the icon and place it on the main entrance of the castle. Then push the armor. Take the glass piece from the floor and read the books in the bedrooms.

Talk to the maid, find a place to sleep in and refuse to share your bed with her. Repair the oven and talk to the maid again. Inspect the closed door. Pull one of the torches from the church room. In the secret room, examine the pentagram. The new book can be read in the bedroom that has ritual books. Talk to Ellen. Talk to Ellen in the secret room. Talk to Ellen in Ellen’s bedroom, and then to the devil.

Go back through the magic books and pick up a new one. Then, go back to the witch and repeat the Kalla Ingma Tako spell. The chalk should be placed in the middle of the room. Ask the demon for the key to the maid’s room. Give him a piece glass. Examine the painting in her room. Talk to Ellen, the angel, and the devil. Take the mirror and the Divine Comedy book. Ellen will give the mirror and she will use it to attack the devil. Go to the secret area and break the mirror.

Walkthrough – Nimdok

Look at the 1945 date poster as you enter the house. Talk to the doctor in the next room and refuse to perform the operation. Then, take the scalpel off the table and use it to make a point with the doctor. Next, go to the next room, and push the wall into the middle. There will be a room. Take the watch and wire cutters, and examine the notes on the table. Talk to the boy next door:

Do you know me?

– I am a legend for your honor.

– What makes you believe the Regime will fail to succeed?

– What are your feelings?

Get some sleep.

Take the ether and use it on the patient in the operating room. Talk to the prisoner outside and inquire about the time and date of 1945. Then, use the ether to hang the man and then the wire cutters.

Take the jar with the eyes to the operating room. Use the eyes from the box to see the poster in the operating room. Talk to the prisoner outside, and tell him that you have materials. Then, ask why Nimdok is one.

Enter the room where you see the golem. Turn off the device to the right and use the take option. Nimbok will locate a mirror at its bottom. Take a look at the mirror. Then, use the jar that has eyes for the golem. Talk to him afterwards

– The man caught in barbed wire said that he would wake the sleeping person, tell the truth, and then kiss him.

Golem, wake-up!

Time is the truth.

– For me, it will always be 1945.

– [Kiss Golem.]

The golem must be left the building and the Lost Tribe should take control.

Ending

Don’t lose the game.

While you can choose any character, you will need a Nimdok.

The final location is like a circle with a center for the ritual. Enter the password to get to the middle. You don’t need to get there immediately. Just enter the password (1945), as Nimbok. You can make Nimdok get electrocuted multiple times if you don’t wish to continue playing as Nimdok. The ending will not be affected by this.

There are three parts to AM, and special places around the circle for each of the five characters. These parts are called Superego, Ego, and Id.

It’s not necessary to search for the special place of your character and put a personal item on it. However, you can still do it if you wish to learn more about the character’s past and solve additional puzzles.

Cross the bridge and use Summoning at the middle. The Totem of Entropy, which the demon and the russian- and chinese computer computers are trying to obtain, is what you must deny. Then, you will need to locate three parts of AM.

Talk to them when you find them. Don’t ask them for help. If they don’t respond, use Totems of Clarity on your Superego, Totems of Forgiveness on your Ego, and Totems of Compassion on Your Id. Totem of Entropy can be used on the ritual site. You will get a happy ending if you did everything correctly.

Only the words they use to end their characters are different.

You can load the game prior to the last chapter to try different variations. Give the Totem of Entropy (or russian or chinese AI) to a demon, or to a russian or chinese AI. Do what the AI asks, and don’t use totems for all AM parts. These variations differ slightly in that a colony can survive on the Moon or die. The main character can also transform into a disgusting beast with no mouth.

It didn’t work for me.

  • If a character makes a mistake, any character can access the bridge password in the last chapter. It didn’t work for me, even though I tried many characters.
  • You could have a better ending, where the character defeats the AI completely. This ending may exist, but I was unable to find it.
