Risk of Rain 2 – Guide to Characters, Mechanics, and More

Before I begin, let me explain the scope of this Guide. The Guide will cover the basic game mechanics and a guide to the characters. Please take the time to read my reviews. I am an aspiring gamer, so please take the time to read my reviews and give them a like.

Let’s begin with the basics

The game’s main objective is to progress through various stages with increasing difficulty and difficult enemies. You will need to have skill and assistance from your items in order to progress. After completing challenges or opening chests, items are either passive or active bonuses. They can be divided into different levels.

  • Grey Items – These are the most commonly used items. Most of the bonuses you get are very minimal but you can still create game-changing damage and bonuses with enough grey items.
  • Green Items : Although they look similar to Grey Items in appearance, Green Items are more rare than Grey Items. You don’t usually have enough items to make powerful combinations.
  • Red Items – These are insane items that can have a big impact on your run. You will have one or more Red Items in every playthrough, but even a small amount can make a difference.
  • Boss Items – These are random items that can be randomly given to you after you kill a boss. They aren’t as good as Red Items but offer unique bonuses that can be combined with other items, making them worthwhile additions to your arsenal.
  • Lunar Items – These items are difficult to obtain as they require a currency called Lunar Coins. These coins can be dropped randomly by enemies or by completing challenges. These items offer both a positive and negative bonus. These items are rare enough to be worth considering, even if there are downsides.

To progress, you’ll need to rely on both your skills and your items. It will be difficult to find items of any rarity that synergize well if you don’t have artifacts. These are special modifiers that can impact your run. The following is a general knowledge.

The Passive bonus is applied on a hit, in death, or under any circumstances. This is how most items interact with enemies. You will need to be aware of three main factors. Your Attackis an important factor. If you don’t have enough damage to melt through enemies later on in the game, you will be even more frustrated.

Speed is another important factor to consider. Speed is another factor that enemies become more agile and you will soon meet your end if they don’t manage to avoid you. Health is the final factor. You’ll need enough to withstand even the slightest attack and not be instantly killed. These factors must be balanced, or your run will quickly end.

Let’s now get into the characters.

Commando

Commando is a master of many trades. Commando excels in nearly every situation. He is well-rounded and easy to understand, so anyone can pick him up. His base stats are good and he has no weaknesses or special strengths. Commando is able to quickly item-stack multiple Items due to his high rate of fire. Double Tap is Commando’s primary weapon.

Satisfactory – How to Make Train Station Outpost

You will often depend on it to fight tanker foes. His secondary weapon, Phase Round, fires a piercing bullet which can deal heavy damage. Phase Blast, on the other hand, fires two bullets at close range that do more damage. His utility, Tactical Dive, and Tactical Slide allow him to move quickly and avoid getting hurt. His special, Suppressive Fire, fires a spectacular shot that is affected by his attack speed. His secondary utility Frag Granade is exactly what it sounds like. He fires a grenade that does a lot AOE damage.

These Items should be avoided while playing Commando

  • Soldier’s Syringe increases your default attack speed. This means you can proc more items per hit in less time.
  • Commando will have a much-needed AOE attack from Ukelele. Proc will find it much easier to use his fast attack speed.
  • Commando will be even more difficult to hit with Wax Quail.
  • AtG Missles can be difficult to hit as they have only a 10% chance for triggering. However, because you fire so quickly, you can often trigger them.

Huntress

Huntress rewards the most skilled players with high damage, homing attacks and mobility. However, she also punishes the most fragile survivors. Huntress’s game is called “hit and run”, as even the smallest damage can cause you to be dragged along like a truck. Huntress’s high damage output makes her viable for anyone. However, only the most skilled players will be capable of progressing through the game using all she has.

Huntress’ unique ability to fire while sprinting is something that makes her a Survivor. Strafe, her first primary, is a tracking shot that fires very fast. Flurry, her secondary, fires three tracking arrows. Laser Glaive, her secondary, is a bouncing boomerang which can be used as an AOE. Blink, one her utilities, teleports to her medium distance. Phase Blink, her other utility, teleports to her short distance but can store up 3 charges. Arrow Rain is a good source of AOE damage and Ballista deals heavy damage to a single character.

These Items should be avoided while playing Huntress:

  • Backup Magazine offers her an additional charge for her secondary, which means more AOE.
  • Rose Buckler’s sprinting makes her less vulnerable, and Huntress should not be sprinting.
  • Lens-Maker’s Glasses allow her to critically strike which can cause double damage. This can also help her avoid BIG damage.

Bandit

Bandit is a sneaky fighter who uses his skills to get around enemies and take them off guard to inflict massive damage. He can do heavy damage quickly and is very mobile. After completing three stages, he can be unlocked. A passive is a weapon that if he hits an enemy’s back, it instantly becomes a critical hit. Burst, which deals good damage at close range, is his primary weapon.

A Blast, on the other hand, is a long-range rifle blast. He has Serrated Dagger which is a melee attack that is close to the target, while Serrated Shiv is where he can fire daggers that can cause bleeding. The only utility he has is Smoke Bomb. It cloaks Bandit temporarily and does exactly what its name suggests. Two specials are also available to him, Lights Out where he fires one shot and resets all cooldowns if he kills. Desperado, on the other hand, increases the weapon’s damage by 10% if he kills.

These Items should be avoided while playing Bandit

  • Bandit needs to have Ukelele and Gasoline, as he has trouble dealing with AOE damage.
  • Harvester’s Scythe heals whenever he scores a critical strike. This means that this should be your primary source of healing.
  • Crowbar will cause Crowbar to deal more damage with his first hit. This means that Crowbar will do more damage overall.

MUL-T

MUL-T is a TANK. He is the most healthy and has the best abilities. He is also very slow and has below-average mobility. You must beat the first stage five times to unlock him. MUL-T is unique because he has four primary weapons and can choose to use two of them. First, there’s the Auto-Nailgun, which allows him to quickly fire nails. Second, there’s Rebar Puncher, which deals heavy damage with a single piercing shot.

Third, Scrap Launcher, which launches a rocket and explodes upon impact. Finally, Power-Saw is a melee attack that targets close enemies. Blast Canister is his only secondary, which can launch a canister that stuns. Transport Mode, which is his only utility, allows MUL-T zoom forward and gains armor and speed. Retool allows him switch between his primary attack and allows him 2 pieces of equipment. Power Mode allows him enter a mode that allows him fire both his primary attacks simultaneously for a short time.

These Items should be avoided while playing MUL-T

  • Paul’s Goat Hoof, which greatly speeds up his movement speed, is a necessity.
  • Hopoo Feather gives him extra mobility and jump.
  • Backup Magazine is a good choice, as the cooldown for his secondary abilities is quite lengthy.

Engineer

Engineer is a very skilled Survivor and requires great positioning to win. Engineer is unique because he relies more on his Special than anyone else, which are turrets as powerful as his other skills. After completing 30 stages, he is unlocked.

Bouncing Grenades are his primary weapon. They need to be charged up and can fire up 8 grenades. The secondaries of his are Pressure Mines, which can cause a lot damage if stepped on, as well as Spider Mines, which can track the enemy and do less damage. Bubble Shield is his first utility. This temporarily blocks incoming projectiles. Thermal Harpoons, his second utility, fires up to four tracking shots.

The Special is the final part of his moveset. The TR12 Gauss Auto-Turret, a stationary turret, fires fast shots and inherits your items. The TR58 Carbonizer Turret, a mobile turret with a laser that fires quickly and inherits all of your items, is also available. They can be placed two times and form the core of your arsenal.

These Items are important to keep in mind when playing Engineer:

  • BUNGUS.
  • Practically any item you pick up is useful, even if you don’t like it.

Artificer

Artificer is a versatile character with a variety of skills. This gives her one of the best and most unique movesets. Her high-powered moves can make it through even the most difficult enemies. Her power does not come at the expense of survival. She has no movement or defensive skills so you will need to be skilled at dodge. To unlock her, you will need to spend 10 Lunar coins at the Bazar. You can access this place through blue portals. Her passive allows her glide and hover in mid-air, negating any fall damage.

Her primary, Flame Bolt, ignites enemies with a ball of flame. Plasma Bolt, her secondary, can fire a bolt that can strike nearby enemies. Her secondary, Charged Nano Bomb, is a bomb that can do a lot of damage to enemies nearby. Cast Nano-Spear, on the other hand, deals only one enemy severe damage. Snapfreeze is her single utility. It creates a barrier to freeze enemies. She also has two specials: Flamethrower, which can burn all enemies in front you, and Ion Surge, which stuns enemies, fires bolts out of the sky.

These Items should be avoided while playing Artificer

  • Backup Magazine allows her more of her secondary, which can be a powerful AOE attack and a tank killer.
  • Soldier’s Syringe works with Artificer in a strange way. It will increase both the speed at which her attacks are charged and the speed at which it is fired.
  • Bandolier is a great player because she relies on cooldowns and has the chance to instantly recharge her skills.

Mercenary

Mercenary is one the most mobile and manueverable Survivors in the game. With just a few swipes of his sword, Mercenary can quickly attack and decimate enemies. His invisibility gives him an advantage over his enemies. Also, his skills have a low cooldown.

The melee-only survivor Mercenary makes it difficult to play. It is a difficult task to unlock him, since you must achieve the “Obliteration”, which can be achieved on any difficulty. His passive Cybernetic Enhancements, which give him a second jump, allow him to be passive.

The primary weapon, Laser Sword, cuts enemies in front of him. The third strike exposes enemies and deals bonus damage. Whirlwind cuts horizontally quickly twice while Rising Thunder unleashes an uppercut that deals a lot of damage within a very short time. Blinding Assault can be used to do utility. If there are enemies in line, you can run again. Focused Assault is able to deal a lot of damage and can also dash.

Eviscerate targets his nearest enemy, becomes invincible through animation, and Slicing Winds shoots a wind that can attack up to three enemies.

These Items should be avoided while playing Mercenary

  • Focus Crystal deals bonus damage within a small radius of you. However, because you only use melee, you will always take extra damage
  • Hopoo feathers are a nice addition to the Mercenary’s arsenal, as they have to move around and remain in the air for long periods of time.
  • Ukulele is essential since he doesn’t have any AOE

REX

REX is both a robot and an herb that uses HP to create devastating skills at a distance. REX is a powerful attacker, but he uses up HP constantly so he requires a lot of health to compensate for the damage he has done. You must take the Fuel Array from the drop pod through multiple stages until you reach Abyssal Deeps to unlock REX. You will die instantly if your HP drops below 50%. This makes him a difficult one to unlock.

His passive, Natural Toxins can be used to slow down enemies and reduce damage, movement speed, and health. His primary weapon is DRECTIVE. Inject, which launches 3 syringes to heal him for 60% of the damage done. His second secondary is DIRECTIVE: Drill, which launches seed bullets in the sky. Seed Barrage, on the other hand, has a lower cooldown and does exactly the same thing but consumes 15% of his HP.

DIRECTIVE: Disperse gives REX the ability to fire a radius that weakens his enemies. Bramble Volley damages his enemies and takes 20% of his HP. For his special DIRECTIVE, Harvest fires an attack that does heavy damage and plants a seed in enemy. Tangling Growth, on the other hand, heals REX with light-way damage. Each hit costs 25% HP.

These Items should be avoided while playing REX

  • Paul’s Goat Hoof allows for him to move faster as he has a normal movement speed
  • Tougher Times is a good option for REX as it allows him to take damage. However, this Item can sometimes allow him to avoid any self-damage.
  • Leeching Seed is important to stack as any hit will heal him. This is a key aspect of his playstyle.

Loader

Loader is one the most entertaining Survivors in the game. Because of her grapplehook, and her speed, her mobility is unparalleled. She is extremely slow when she’s not in the air and is a melee character. You will need to defeat Siren’s Call, a boss who is a special boss.

Scrap Barrier is her passive, which protects her from falling damage. She also gets temporary barriers every time she hits anything with her fists. Knuckleboom is the primary melee attack of the Loader. Grapple Fist is her default grappling hook. This allows you to grapple with enemies.

Spiked Fist pulls enemies towards itself and stuns. Thunder Gauntlet shocks and pierces nearby enemies, while Charged Gauntlet is her utility weapon. The Loader’s special, M551 Pylon, zaps nearby foes, and the Thunderslam lets you slam down your fists, causing massive damage upon impact.

These Items should be avoided while playing Loader

  • Paul’s Goat Hoof increases total movement speed. Sign me up.
  • Loader is missing AOE. Will-o-thewisp can provide AOE assistance. The Will-o-the-wisp can be activated by killing enemies quickly.
  • Focus Crystal is perfect for Loader because she doesn’t have any ranged abilities, and her melee attacks cause her extra damage.

Acrid

Acrid is a mixed-ranged/male hybrid that relies on poison to heat tanks. Acrid has excellent crowd control capabilities that allow him to change his playstyle instantly. He is also the Survivor with the highest damage stat, making him a formidable force to be reckoned. You can unlock him by defeating the Void Fields. These are accessible by going under the Bazar.

Acrid is unique because he can choose from two passives. The first passive is Poison which deals powerful damage over time but leaves enemies at 1 HP. Blight applies poison to attacks instead and causes stacking blight to deal 60% damage per second. Vicious Wounds, his primary melee attack is he uses, but the third hit heals him. Neurotoxin is his secondary. It spits out a melee toxic bullet which poisons. Ravenous Bite inflicts large damage on enemies. Frenzied Leap reduces your cooldown for each enemy hit and Caustic Leap poisons him in the air. His special, Epidemic makes Acrid Fire a projectile that targets other enemies.

These Items should be avoided while playing Acrid

  • Acrid is a specialist in dealing debuffs. The Death Mark deals additional damage.
  • Acrid can use gasoline to cover more debuffs, and also cover AOE’s Acrid does not have.
  • Acrid must have Focus Crystal, which makes melee survivors take more damage.

Captain

The Captain’s strength is his ability to bring down fire on everyone with his skills. He can deal both close-up and ranged damage making him an exceptional choice for any situation. Captain can use his passive, Defensive Microbots to get Microbots that will shoot down enemy projectiles.

His primary weapon, Vulcan Shotgun (Vulcan Shotgun), fires a series of powerful pellets that do a lot of damage. Charging the attack reduces the spread. His secondary, Power Tazer stuns and does little damage. The Orbital Probe gives him the ability to request 3 Orbital Probes to deal a lot of damage.

While the OGM-72 “DIABLO” Strike allows Captain to call one strike that does a huge amount of damage and IM NOT EXAGGERATING, his utility is extremely powerful. He can also call various supply beacons, including the Healing Beacon, which heals any area within its radius, the Shocking Beacon, which shocks all enemies nearby, the Resupply Beacon, which charges all equipment, and the Hacking Beacon, which allows him to open any chest.

These Items should be avoided while playing Captain

  • Captain can use wax quails and any other movement item, as he has a slower than average movement speed.
  • Bandolier lets him instantly recharge any skill, making it extremely powerful.
  • Tri-Tip Dagger works well, as the Captain has a high chance of triggering Items.
