Layers of Fears shares Gamescom trailer, revealing a ‘new story chapter’

Bloober Team is back with yet another thrilling training session for the coming psychological horror game the Layers of Fears. The game first came out in June of this year, but we now know more about what we can expect when it comes out in 2023.

Bloober Team is certainly not new to the genre. They’ve created The Medium and Blair Witch as well as this time they are working on their Layers of Fear sequel alongside Anshar Studios. Layers of Fears isn’t an immediate sequel to 2016’s Layers of Fear or even Layers of Fear 2 in 2019. Layers of Fear 2. Instead, the game will remake both titles, as well as the DLC to make them an all-new, terrifying reimagination of the series that includes novel plot lines along with Unreal Engine 5 technology.

The brand new trailer that was shown at Gamescom is available to watch above. While it definitely sets the tone and mood but we don’t get additional information about how the two preceding games could actually intertwine. The cinematic and psychedelic graphics that we’ve come to expect from these games are present and more intense than ever before in the UE5 game.

In the past, Bloober Team CEO Piotr Babieno stated in the press release that “Our strategy consisted of re-creating the game however we weren’t looking to simply create a collection of two games that have been remastered. We’ve come up with a fresh method, which is possibly not clear yet. However, I can assure you that there’s a reason we named the project Layers of Fears.”

It doesn’t look like Layers of Fears will consist of a straightforward remastering of the original game. The trailer also gives us a first glimpse of “The Final Note,” which will appear as Layers of Fears’ “new story chapter” which will let us play the Painter’s Wife from the original Layers of Fear game.

In the end, It appears as if this new version of the series is going to take the best elements of the game and develop the series into something larger more exciting, superior, and with fresh perspectives shed on the overall story of these games.

Personally, I’m eager to see how the Bloober Team has done with Layers of Fears, especially given that speculations about the possibility of a Silent Hill match from the Bloober Team have been swept under the carpet. What are your thoughts on the upcoming horror game?
